Barenaked Ladies
« on: April 12, 2008, 05:29:03 PM »

OK so this is, in my humble little opinion, the most amazing band on the planet. Many of you won't have heard of them before because they mostly tour Canada and the US. They've been around for almost 20 years though.

I think everyone should once in their life hear Steven Page singing "Break Your Heart", even if they decide it sucks afterwards. I think it might just be the most amazing song ever.
Some other favourites of mine are...
Half A Heart
Maybe Not
Get In Line
and I could list another 50 but I'll stop for now! Maybe some of you decide to check them out. I hope you like them.

Did you live in the French speaking part of Canada? I don't think they are as big there so that explains it...They are from Ontario.

The Old Apartment

Broke into the old apartment
This is where we used to live
Broken glass, broke and hungry
broken hearts and broken bones
This is where we used to live

Why did you paint the walls?
Why did you clean the floor?
Why did you plaster over the hole I punched in the door?
This is where we used to live

Why did you keep the mousetrap?
Why did you keep the dishrack?
These things used to be mine
I guess they still are, I want them back

Broke into the old apartment
Forty-two stairs from the street
Crooked landing, crooked landlord
Narrow laneway filled with crooks.
This is where we used to live.

Why did they pave the lawn?
Why did they change the lock?
Why did I have to break it, I only came here to talk
This is where we used to live

How is the neighbor downstairs?
How is her temper this year?
I turned up your TV and stomped on the floor just for fun
I know we don't live here anymore
We bought an old house on the Danforth
She loves me and her body keeps me warm
I'm happy here
But this is where we used to live

Broke into the old apartment
Tore the phone out of the wall
Only memories, fading memories
Blending into dull tableaux

I want them back
I want them back

Many thanks for the links, Janina! You're right, Break Your Heart is a fabulous song and the singer's performance is absolutely amazing. It makes me remember a great solo performer that I miss too much.  :search: :( His absence "breaks my heart"  :(

Here's Steven Page accompanied by an orchestra singing a couple of songs, interesting choice I must say

I absolutely love 'Tonight we fly'. Never heard it before but this version is amazing. 'Running out of ink' is one of my many favourite BNL songs.

Yeah! I think it's "One Week" you're talking about? That's one of their more well known singles.

BNL are one of my favourite all time bands. I saw them live once supporting The Beautiful South. We almost saw them when we were on holiday in Canada a few years back but the flights etc didn't work out sadly. I'm not sure that they'd be the same live without Steven, but I guess I wouldn't know as I've only seen them once whilst he was still in the band.lol
