Where are we all?
« on: May 20, 2013, 09:52:03 PM »

Hi everyone  :D Just thought I'd start a thread to get us all back onto the forum. I know we have places like Facebook and Twitter these days but it would be a shame to lose this place too. It's one of the best forums for Ronan news that's for sure.

So I thought I'd start off by finding out where Ronan's fans are around the world! I'm in Darlington which is north east UK (about  40 minutes from Newcastle).

Hi, I agree with you 100%, let's get us back on track!  :)
I'm from Budapest, Hungary. I don't really know any other Hungarian fans (I know there are some out there, but they are not very active).

Ah I love you two for coming back. I'm losing hope because no one seems to want to use message boards anymore :(

I've been thinking of relaunching the site and moving to different software that's more of a social network than a forum. It would mean everyone needs to register again but perhaps that would get people interested again.
If you two would like to test out the possible new site, I will PM you the link. Let me know. xx

I'm not the posting type, but I kept checking the site regularly, and I still think that it was really up to date, but still very friendly. I was sad to see that it has been inactive recently,it would be nice to maintain it.

LOL Wish we could! I've been trying this for like 15 years now in many different ways, forum etc. Even when Boyzone was on top in the end of the '90s they could fill a little stadium with like 2.000 people. No wonder Ronan never comes back here. :( I have this link page http://www.ronankeating.lap.hu and its Facebook site and there are about 5 Hungarian fans...

It's such a shame that they don't seem to be as popular as they were now we have social network sites. I used to live on the message boards once upon a time. Maybe I'm just living in the past! I don't get online properly these days as much as I'd like but I'd be more than willing to test out the new site if you decide to go ahead.

That's kind of part of the problem - posts and updates are only there if someone posts them... so any message board needs a decent amount of members who create content. We had a great bunch but they've all disappeared and no one else has joined :(

I am reluctant to take the forum offline and lose all the information we've collected on here over seven years, but I can't force people to use the boards and if they don't want to then the forum has lost its purpose... so I am not 100% sure what to do x

I never knew you had a Facebook page for it too. I will give you a shout out right now and perhaps that'll send another few people your way :)

Thanks a lot! :) I know I might not do such a great job with the site, but my aim is to give update on relevant events and materials, I'm not really interested in sharing info about faraway tours, event photos or random tweets (I have no problems with that, anyway), but there are many sites out there for this purpose. I don't really have time for that, anyway. Nor do I think I should share links on a link collection site that might not be relevant or be online after a few days. At least it is also in Hungarian, so it might be interesting for Hungarian fans, if anyone is interested, at all.

You're filling a nice little niche there - I think more people should create little info pages in their respective language to try and create some more attention in specific countries. You're right, we've got plenty of 'international' pages out there now, especially on Facebook and Twitter and I think many of them are kind of redundant because there's nothing new or different about them.
But addressing people in their language is always a good thing. I think what you could do if you found a couple more Hungarian fans is try and get some radio station requests etc done, to get his songs out there a bit more again. Doing that country based is always a good thing. People underestimate the importance of airplay etc.

Absolutely. If people come back and use the forum, it's staying. But we'd need a few more people's commitment to keep it alive. x
